Build
Razer Blackshark V2 Pro is very comfortable for a headset that is designed exclusively for gaming which is a great thing because no matter how long are the sessions of gameplay, they still won’t tire you. The aesthetics of the headset are very subtle and with matte finish. The primarily plastic build feels sturdy with wireframe hinges and a thick headband that is cushioned.
The wireframe hinges feel a little loose but the memory foam ear pad compensated for this minor issue. The memory foam pads are wrapped in leatherette in the 2020 version but with cloth in 2023 under mesh fabric which makes a decent seal but doesn’t let the heat build after prolonged gaming sessions.
For a gaming headset, it doesn’t have any LEDs or bulk designs but it is a little heavier which is obvious due to the battery, still, it is very comfortable to use.
Furthermore, the wireless headset has a mic mute button, a volume knob on the side of the left headphone, and a power button. The headphones are very easy to adjust and the range of motion is pretty smooth.
In the 2023 version, there is a single button for switching between the pre-tune equalizer profiles. The double tap makes the switching between the Hyperspeed USB dongle and paired Bluetooth devices quick.
You can access the EQ settings, THX virtual surround sound, and other options for mic and headphones settings from the Razer Synapse 3 app. This app has also improved the features of the gaming headset to make the operations better.
Blackshark V2 Pro uses a 2.4 Ghz USB RF dongle for wireless audio. However, there is a headset that has one stick with MicroUSB, unlike many latest ones that are equipped with USB-C. While the audio is lag-free for PC it does have a bit of hindrance in audio quality for consoles.
Sound
The sounds feel accurate like their predecessors through the midrange. It has a bit of added emphasis on bass response with 200 Hz and this frequency response can be pleasing for a lot of people. The songs come loud and clear but a low-end emphasis will be good for bass-heavy genres. When you play on PC the THX spatial audio works great. All the games such as Risk of Rain 2 have really prominent soundtracks and don’t support surround sounds but still sound great.
However, the sounds in the game like explosions and gunfire feel louder but do not suppress the other important sounds. The sound profile of the headset is reasonably well but the isolation is not so great. The headset and ear pads play a part in isolation. Although the headset is comfortable, the hinges are looser which renders ear pads compress less when in use so there is very little barrier between the ears and the outer sounds. The pre-tuned profiles in the latest version of the headset come in handy other than that there is no huge difference in the sound quality of both headsets.
Microphone
As previously mentioned microphone of the BlackShark V2 pro is pretty improved especially with deep voices. But it’s not just that, the audio output is accurate through the vocal range however there is still a bit of de-emphasis in the base range. The 2023 BlackShark Pro upgraded the mic with a 32kHz sampling rate which makes it even better.
The Synapse app adds extra goodness to the microphone. There are EQ preset and custom EQ settings. It also features sliders for vocal clarity and vocal normalization. Additionally, the feature for ambient sound reduction helps a lot in audio output.
The Battery
Blackshark V2 pro wireless has remarkable battery timing. The company advertised it to be 24 hour which is not an exaggeration. If you use the headset at ~75dB for 24 hours it will get you through it. If you use it at a lower volume, the timing will increase by more than 24 hours. The V2 Pro 2023 has a battery life of 90 hours in Bluetooth mode and 70 hours in hyperspeed mode which is excellent if you are a long-session user. Moreover, the Synapse app has a sleep mode feature to shut down the headset when it is inactive after 10 minutes, there is no option for changing the inactive countdown.
Is It Worth Buying BlackShark V2 Pro Wireless?
Razer Blackshark V2 wireless is certainly equipped with classy features that can make the gaming, communicating, and entertaining sessions more exciting. First and foremost, a wireless headset is the way to go because you don’t have to deal with the cord.
However, there is more to that, the audio quality of the headset makes it a great choice to play games, you can listen to everything clearly with a little louder boom sounds. The headset is very comfy but the proper fit is something the manufacturers should work on.
Finally, the best feature of the headset is its mic, and no matter which version you buy, your voice will go clear and crips on the other end. The 2023 is almost 20 dollars more expensive than the 2020 version and the extra money is for Bluetooth which is worth spending.
